Scott Rogers 'Wireframe' in Halifax
April 26th, 2010Going out east anytime soon? Calgary artist Scott Rogers (one of last year's Artcity architecture competition winners)will be exhibiting WIREFRAME in Halifax at the Khyber Institute of Contemporary Art until May 21st.
Opening reception on April 29th at 8pm.
"Wireframe is a site-specific installation that uses photo-luminescent tape to trace the unique Victorian architecture of the Ballroom Gallery at Khyber ICA. Inspired by early '80s science-fiction film sets, video games, and AutoCAD, Wireframe creates tension between real and virtual space, converting the gallery into an immersive three-dimensional drawing of itself. Through this ‘drawing' process, the individuality of the Ballroom is revealed, indexing the production and history of the space as well as positioning the building as a collaborator in the work. This empathetic shift re-mixes the context of the space and the activity happening inside it. As a result Wireframe proposes an inter-subjective relationship; we program the gallery while the gallery simultaneously programs us. SR"
