/GALLERY MANDATE

The Stride Art Gallery Association supports the artistically innovative, regardless of ideological attachments, in whatever media the artist happens to be working. We offer artists opportunities to take significant steps within their own independent practice, that may well become better defined and better understood for having exhibited at Stride Gallery. Our association is committed to ongoing excellence in visual art exhibitions, site-specific or public initiatives outside the gallery proper, lectures, special events and publications. Stride Gallery provides an arena for the ongoing critical discourse relating to contemporary art.

/JOB DESCRIPTION Working closely with gallery staff, the Resource Development Assistant will perform research and investigate opportunities for the gallery in the following areas: special project support, community partnerships, and facility & equipment improvements. Responsibilities and duties will include determining the gallery’s priorities in consultation with the Gallery Director, establishing research goals in each area, pursuing research through a variety of approaches, advising on findings and developing action plans in tandem with gallery staff. This entry-level position is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong interest in contemporary art and artist-run culture to gain valuable hands-on experience.

/MAIN JOB TASKS

• Work with the Director to determine priorities and set goals

• Employ a number of research strategies to identify areas of opportunity for the gallery

• Provide regular updates to gallery staff regarding findings

• Work with the Director to develop action plans, establish relationships, or otherwise act on findings

/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND ASSETS**

• At least two years post-secondary education in visual arts, art history, or arts administration

• Some experience with artist-run centres and non-profit organizations

• A solid understanding of contemporary visual culture

• Working knowledge of Mac software and Microsoft Office Suite

• Experience with a variety of research strategies and information systems

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• A mature attitude and ability to work independently in a collaborative environment

Under the terms and conditions of this funding, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria: be at least 16 years of age by the position’s start date, have been in school full-time at some point during the last 12 months, be unemployed or working an average of 20 hours or less per week, normally be a resident of Alberta, and be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada.
