Time Commitment: 30 hours per week
Term: May 25h to August 28st 2009
Compensation: $16/hour

Reporting to the Visual Arts Week Society’s Board of Directors, the Festival Assistant/Volunteer Coordinator will work in both administrative and creative programming areas while increasing their knowledge of local large scale event planning.
Applicants must have a working knowledge of and some training in visual arts and/or art history. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in artist-run culture and contemporary art, and will be capable of working independently in a fast-paced and flexible environment. Experience with imaging software and Macintosh computer platforms is considered an asset. This position is dependant on coordinating the schedules of many individuals and organizations, and as such evening and weekend hours will be necessary on occasion.
Duties include:
- Working with artists, organizational representatives, and Artcity staff to aid in the realization of Artcity 2009
- Assisting in the recruitment of volunteers
- Determining key volunteer opportunities and scheduling volunteer hours
- Liaising with media representatives and arranging interviews and print advertisements
- Formatting images and text for publication
- General administrative assistance
This position comes with the possibility of a renewed contract extending into the Fall of 2009 and beyond.

About Artcity
Artcity Festival is Calgary's annual celebration of visual art, architecture, and design. For 10 days each year, new artworks, installations, and projects are temporarily inserted into the urban landscape for discovery and engagement by citizens and artists alike.
Artcity produces an extensive amount of interpretive content as well, with lectures, podcasts, and educational tours dispersed throughout the exhibition schedule.
All Artcity events are open to the public with free admission.
The 18th annual Artcity Festival will take place September 4th to the 13th of 2009, under the thematic banner of "Festival Express".
